Greater Chicago Food Depository is seeking an entry-level CDL driver to operate a commercial vehicle for pickups and deliveries within the Chicagoland area, prioritizing safety and customer service for donors and partner agencies.

You will handle loading/unloading, complete trip paperwork, and help manage equipment on the route. Valid Class B CDL with air-brake endorsement and a clean driving record are required; training provided.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of Class B city driving experience in the Chicagoland area.
• Illinois CDL with Class B and air-brake endorsement; clean MVR.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment and drive manual/automatic trucks.

Responsibilities

• Operate a commercial motor vehicle to pickups and deliveries in Chicagoland.
• Prepare and maintain records of pickup/delivery transactions for Dispatcher.
• Load/off-load freight using pallet jacks or forklift and assist on route.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and daily safety checklists; report issues.
• Oversee truck helper on route and manage GCFD equipment on assignment.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Entry Level CDL Truck Driving Position. Operates a commercial motor vehicle to pick up and deliver products donated to GCFD within the Chicagoland area. Provide highest level of customer service to donors and member agencies.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:• Operate a commercial motor vehicle to pickup and deliver products donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository in an efficient, timely, and safe manner.• Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records of all pickup and delivery transactions, reporting any discrepancies to the Dispatcher• Evaluate the suitability of donated products for distribution to GCFD member agencies. Communicate information regarding donation volume, quality or changes in truck route, and unnecessary waiting times to the dispatcher.• Maintain cleanliness of assigned motor vehicles; ensure that all pre-trip and post-trip vehicle maintenance and safety checklists are completed daily.
