Greater Chicago Food Depository in Chicago, IL seeks an Entry Level CDL Truck Driver to pick up and deliver donated products across the Chicagoland area. You will provide excellent donor and agency service and maintain accurate trip records.

Responsibilities include operating the truck, recording transactions, evaluating donation quality, and keeping vehicles clean with daily maintenance checks. CDL-B with air brake required; benefits available.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years driving Class B in a major city, preferably Chicagoland.
• Valid Illinois CDL with Class B and air-brake endorsement; clean MVR.
• Ability to operate manual and automatic transmission CDL trucks up to 36,000 gross vehicle weight.
• Must have airbrake endorsement.
• Experience with material handling equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate a commercial motor vehicle to pickup and deliver donated products in Chicagoland.
• Prepare and maintain records of pickups/deliveries; report discrepancies.
• Assess donation quality and communicate changes to dispatcher.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and complete daily safety checks.
• Manage GCFD equipment (phones, pallets, jacks, etc.).
• Oversee truck helper on route; replace damaged equipment.
• Load/unload freight using pallet jacks and forklift; assist as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Entry Level CDL Truck Driving Position. Operates a commercial motor vehicle to pick up and deliver products donated to GCFD within the Chicagoland area. Provide highest level of customer service to donors and member agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operate a commercial motor vehicle to pickup and deliver products donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository in an efficient, timely, and safe manner.
• Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records of all pickup and delivery transactions, reporting any discrepancies to the Dispatcher
• Evaluate the suitability of donated products for distribution to GCFD member agencies. Communicate information regarding donation volume, quality or changes in truck route, and unnecessary waiting times to the dispatcher.
• Maintain cleanliness of assigned motor vehicles; ensure that all pre-trip and post-trip vehicle maintenance and safety checklists are completed daily. Report any issues to the supervisor immediately.
• Maintain, and account for all assigned GCFD equipment, such as, phones, load bars, freezer blankets, roll-off tracks, electric and manual jacks, etc.
• Oversee truck helper on route
• Replacing improperly cared for GCFD equipment.
• Load and off-load freight products manually and with use of manual and electric pallet jacks and forklift
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• 1-2 Years of Class B vehicle major city driving experience, preferably in the Chicagoland area.
• Possess valid State of Illinois Commercial Driver's License, with Class B and air-brake endorsement and possess clean driving record (MVR).
• Drive manual and automatic transmission CDL- rated trucks up to 36,000 gross vehicle weight.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment
• Need airbrake endorsement.
