Job summary

City of Murfreesboro, TN seeks a Safety-Sensitive Solid Waste Driver to collect and dispose of solid waste, operating various trucks and loaders across assigned routes. You will work in varied weather, perform inspections, and complete paperwork like VCRs while ensuring safety throughout operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to perform occasional overtime, holiday, and weekend work as needed.
• Ability to safely drive all the trucks and equipment used in the Department.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Operate Solid Waste Department equipment, including trucks and loaders, on assigned routes.
• Start on back of a trash truck and progress to more complex equipment over time.
• Work on the back of a garbage collection truck with heavy lifting, fumes, and noise exposure.
• Complete daily paperwork such as Vehicle Condition Reports (VCR).
• Safely drive and operate knuckle boom loaders and forklifts as required.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned vehicles.
• Assess safe operating conditions around overhead power, telephone and cable lines.
• Assist other workers while loading waste and cleaning areas as needed.
• Washes and maintains vehicle cleanliness and fuel levels.
• Use two-way radio with proper FCC protocol for communication.
• Repair damaged cans and deliver new cans to residents.
