Job summary

Ratto Bros Inc. in Modesto, CA is seeking a Shuttle Driver to load and unload boxes, transport between fields and dock, and prepare harvest tags for the receiving crew. The Shuttle Driver coordinates with harvest supervisors and reports to the supervisor for assignments.

The role requires a valid Class A license with doubles endorsement and airbrakes, 1–3 years driving experience, and preferred forklift/pallet jack experience. Bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Not cited for a DOT defined accident in the previous 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Advises immediate supervisor when deliveries are completed and remains available for next task.
  • Assist in unloading full trailers at the cooler and during field operations.
  • Assist in trailer loading operations in the field and properly complete load tags.
  • Maintain trucks and equipment, keeping them clean and orderly.
  • Inspect trucks for defects before and after trips and report conditions.
  • Load and transport boxes, totes, and crates to the trailer in the field.
  • Maintain records such as vehicle safety inspections, driver manifests, and loading logs.
  • Operate trucks and farm tractors safely in various field conditions.
  • Report accidents or incidents involving company equipment.

JOB SUMMARY

The Shuttle Driver is responsible for loading and unloading boxes (containers), transporting empty boxes to the fields, and transporting full vegetable boxes to the dock. The Shuttle Drivers prepares, Signs, and delivers field harvest tags to the receiving crew at the cooler and to harvest supervisors; The Shuttle Drivers reports to harvest supervisor and coordinates with crew leaders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Advises immediate supervisor when a delivery of product/supplies is completed, and he/she are available for the next transportation task or assignments.
  • Assist in the unloading of full trailers at the cooler.
  • Assist in trailer loading operations in field
  • Complete load tags properly with required information.
  • Helps with general housekeeping when not driving.
  • Hitch and unhitch trailers to trucks or farm tractors.
  • Inspect truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.
  • Load and transport empty boxes, totes, or crates.
  • Load full vegetable boxes, totes, and crates onto trailer in field.
  • Maintain trucks and equipment clean. Must wash vehicle and trailer.
  • Maintain a variety of records and reports related to assigned activities such as: vehicle safety inspections, driver manifests and vehicle/trailer cleaning logs.
  • Maintain fields clean of trash and debris.
  • Maintain communication with Shuttle Driver Supervisor or Harvest manager/Supervisor by using equipment such as wireless phones and two-way radios.
  • Maintain record of materials and products transported.
  • Maintains his/her work vehicle in a neat and appropriate manner.
  • Operate trucks and tractors on ranches in muddy, rainy, or dry conditions.
  • Operate trucks and farm tractors in a safe manner.
  • Operate farm tractor during field loading operations.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and comply with all Federal, State, and local regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Positions and secures v-boards, ties ropes and straps around boxes/totes/crates and entire load to hold the cargo safely for transport.
  • Report vehicle and equipment defects to Harvest Supervisor or maintenance shop.
  • Report all accidents and/ or incidents involving driver or company equipment.
  • Sort stock as assigned; assist with periodic inventories.
  • Unload empty boxes, totes, and crates.
  • Work in mudd
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to bend, stoops, kneels, crouch, crawl, climb and walk on soft, uneven ground and steps over obstacles.
  • Ability to pass required medical examinations and vision test.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time, while in a moving vehicle.
  • Must secure loaded trailers by climbing on top of loaded trailers by using v-boards, straps, or ropes.
  • Must be able to maintain concentration, visual acuity, and alertness.
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires making the same physical activities or mental activities over and over.
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk to occasionally climb on equipment.
  • Employee is constantly required to use arms, legs, hands to finger, reach with legs, feed, hands/arms to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls.
  • Employee must be able to hear others speak and must be able to hear equipment noise.
