Job summary

The City of Houston Solid Waste Management division is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to operate a prentice loader, hydraulic gripper, and dump truck, performing pre/post-trip checks and transporting refuse to landfills.

This is an essential worker role with potential mandatory overtime, requiring CDL Class A, a high school diploma or GED, and 2 years of equipment experience. Applicants will complete records and daily reports, and veterans are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in the operation of plant and automotive equipment required.
• Must have a valid CDL License Class A that complies with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
• Preference will be given to candidates with Class A CDL.

Responsibilities

• Operate the prentice loader hydraulic gripper assembly and truck, and use two-way radio and safety equipment.
• Transport refuse materials to and from landfills, transfer stations, and resource recovery facilities.
• Perform pre/post-trip maintenance and related vehicle checks (fluids, air pressures, washing).
• Prepare daily operation reports and records (loads, fuel, odometer).
