Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Zanesville, OH is hiring a CDL A driver to transport, load, unload, and collect liquid and solid hazardous and non-hazardous wastes from customer sites.

You will operate tanker equipment, follow safety procedures, and help ensure accurate paperwork. This role offers competitive hourly pay of $26–$30+ based on experience, with overtime, weekends, and a strong benefits package including medical, retirement, and EAP.

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL A with clean driving record.
  • Tanker endorsement required; Hazmat endorsement preferred.
  • Must be able to drive manual transmissions.
  • Overtime and possible weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation and safety compliance.
  • Loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Perform trip inspections on equipment and load for safety and roadworthiness.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions with directions from crew.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, or damage.
  • Check load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Record driver logs, bills of lading, and manifests.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers.
  • Ensure debris from loading is cleaned up.
  • Provide feedback to supervision on problems and train others when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Pay: $26-$30+/hr Based on Experience

This CDL A driver will transport, remove, deliver, and collect various liquid and solid hazardous and non-hazardous wastes from various customer sites. Will be required to load and unload trucks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and regulations.
  • Loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Perform trip inspections on equipment operated and load, ensuring safety and roadworthiness.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  • Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
  • Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook, bills of lading, manifests etc. by manual or electronic means.
  • Communicate effectively with the public, customers, and co-workers both verbally and in written form.
  • Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up.
  • Provide feedback to supervision regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems.
  • Train others when required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
  • Valid CDL A with clean driving record.
  • Tanker endorsement required
  • Hazmat endorsement Preferred.
  • Must be able to drive manual transmissions.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required and occasional overnight.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance.
  • Familiarity and experience working with government documents such as manifests.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.
  • Professional/mature demeanor under stressful situations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Will be required to work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Manual dexterity, ability to lift 50+ lbs required.
