Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Schererville, IN, is seeking a skilled hazardous waste driver with CDL A and required endorsements to transport and manage waste at client sites. You will load, unload, and secure cargo, perform inspections, maintain logs, and ensure regulatory compliance while delivering professional service and paperwork sign-offs.

Responsibilities

• Safe driving and operation: Pre- and post-trip inspections; load/unload at loading/unloading positions.
• Cargo handling & securement: Load, unload, and secure hazardous waste per safety standards and regulations.
• Compliance & documentation: Maintain driver logs, manifests, bills of lading, and service records compliant with DOT and safety standards.
• Defect & incident reporting: Report mechanical issues, accidents, or vehicle damage to supervision.
• Customer service & communication: Maintain professional communication with customers and ensure timely deliveries and proper paperwork sign-offs.
• Site & equipment care: Keep vehicles clean; clear loading/unloading debris; report issues to management.
• Support & teamwork: Assist in training team members and perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Pay: $30+/hr based on experience

This driver will transport, remove, deliver, and collect various liquid and solid hazardous wastes from various customer sites. Will be required to load and unload trucks. They will also have the ability to operate a variety of truck and equipment including vacuum trucks, box trucks, and any other equipment that fits their license on site if necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safe Driving & Operation: Perform pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, roadworthiness, and proper mechanical condition; maneuver trucks safely into loading/unloading positions.
• Cargo Handling & Securement: Safely load, unload, and secure all liquid and solid hazardous waste cargo in compliance with safety standards and weight/dimension regulations.
• Compliance & Documentation: Maintain accurate driver logs, manifests, bills of lading, and service records in full compliance with state, federal, DOT, and safety regulations.
• Defect & Incident Reporting: Promptly report any mechanical issues, accidents, traffic violations, or vehicle damage to supervision.
• Customer Service & Communication: Maintain professional communication with co-workers, customers, and the public; ensure timely, courteous deliveries and proper paperwork sign-offs.
• Site & Equipment Care: Keep vehicles clean, ensure any loading/unloading debris is promptly cleared, and report delivery or customer issues to management.
• Support & Teamwork: Assist in training team members when required and perform other duties as assigned.

• Valid CDL A with airbrakes
• Tanker Endorsement Required
• Hazmat Endorsement Required
• Must be able to operate manual with no restrictions
• Overtime as required.
• Weekend work may be required, on call schedule in effect on weekly basis.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Will be required to work both indoors and outdoors.
• Manual dexterity, ability to lift 75+ lbs required.
