CASEY COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Teacher; Regular Classroom

Department: Instruction

Reports To: Principal

Approved By: Casey County Board of Education Date: February, 2016

SUMMARY: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Interprets the policies of the school to parents and other stakeholders.
  • Executes the Board and administrative policies within the classroom and community.
  • Directs and evaluates the learning experience of students in all activities sponsored by the school.
  • Builds positive relationships within and between school and community.
  • Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Evaluates own overall performance in relation to Kentucky's learner goals and implements a professional development plan.
  • Provides for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Participates in professional learning communities and professional learning activities.
  • Contributes to the professional knowledge and expertise about teaching and learning.
  • Participates in policy design and development at the local school, within professional organizations, and/or within community organizations with educationally related activities.
  • Practices effective listening, conflict resolution and group-facilitation skills as a team member.
  • Initiates and develops educational projects and programs.
  • Guides the development of curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.

CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION:

  • The teacher demonstrates content knowledge within own discipline(s) and in application to other disciplines.
  • The teacher designs/plans instruction that develops student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  • The teacher creates a learning climate that supports the development of student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  • The teacher assesses learning and communicates results to students and others with respect to student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  • The teacher collaborates with colleagues, parents, and other agencies to design, implement, and support learning programs that develop student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  • The teacher reflects on and evaluates teaching/learning.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises classroom and students.
