• Understands proper administrative chain of command and refers requests through proper channels.

• Promotes unity and camaraderie in the athletic department.
• Does not discourage students from participating in other school sports.
• Maintains discipline and morale within the program.
• Assists in preparing for scheduled events and adheres to facility times.
• Coordinates facility needs with head coach.
• Safeguards for equipment maintenance and protection.
• Provides guidance and safeguarding for participants.
• Is accountable to Head Coach for equipment and inventory.
• Secures doors, lights, and equipment when leaving areas.
• Supervises locker room before/after practice as delegated.
• Instills respect for equipment and property in players.
• Assists Head Coach in responsibilities.
• Instructs players on rule changes and fundamentals as directed by Head Coach.
• Works within Head Coach framework and philosophy.
• Attends staff meetings and carries out scouting as directed.
• Avoids criticizing or arguing with Head Coach in view of players and staff.
• Strives to improve skills by attending clinics and using available resources.

Job Description

Assistant Coach :

• Has a thorough knowledge of the Rules and By-Laws of the KHSAA as they pertain to his/her sport, including the clearance of all staff members and student-athletes.


• Understands the proper administrative chain of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels.


• Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.


• Promotes a sense of unity and camaraderie in the athletic department as a whole.


• Does not discourage students to participate in other school sponsored sports.


• Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program.


• Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sports events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility usage times.


• Coordinates facility needs/repairs with head coach.


• Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment.


• Provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.


• Is accountable to the Head Coach for all equipment. Assists with issuing and collecting of equipment and submits to the Head Coach annual inventory.


• Secures all doors, lights, windows and, locks and stores all equipment before leaving areas.


• Supervises locker room area before and after practice as delegated by Head Coach.


• Instills in each player a respect for equipment, school property, and their proper use.


• Assists the Head Coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities.


• Instructs team members as to changes in the rules and teaches fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the Head Coach.


• Works within the basic framework and philosophy of the Head Coach of the sport.


• Attends all staff meetings and carries out scouting assignments as outlined by the HeadCoach.


• Never criticizes, admonishes or argues with the Head Coach or any athletic staff members within ears or eyes of players, fans, parents and other staff members.


• Strives to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the Head Coach.


• Performs other duties that are consistent with the nature of the positions and that may berequested by the Head Coach, Athletic Director or Principal.
