Job description

Looking for a communications role where no two days are the same, and your work genuinely makes a difference for students, faculty, alumni, and the broader Fairbanks community? The UAF College of Business and Security Management (CBSM) is seeking a creative, driven, and collaborative Communications Specialist. This position leads outreach and social media efforts, including developing weekly e-newsletters and planning content across multiple platforms. The role maintains accurate contact lists, tracks campaign performance, oversees digital signage, produces blog posts, and manages an online job board that connects employers with students and alumni.

The position plays a central role in supporting CBSM's signature events, including the Arctic Innovation Competition and Business Leader of the Year, as well as a variety of student and community programs. Responsibilities include developing marketing materials, keeping event webpages current, coordinating event communications, and serving as a primary point of contact to ensure seamless logistics before, during, and after each event.

Marketing management is equally important to this role. The Communications Specialist maintains website content, manages photo assets, supports video production, and mentors student marketing assistants on editing projects. The position works closely with CBSM student organizations to provide marketing guidance and ensures all materials meet UAF brand standards.

Content creation encompasses flyers, degree maps, advertisements, blogs, newsletters, and event programs. The Communications Specialist prioritizes clarity, accuracy, and consistency with CBSM and UAF branding while serving as a resource for faculty and staff communications. This role also contributes directly to student recruitment and retention through compelling, high-quality materials.

Finally, the Communications Specialist serves as CBSM's Public Information Officer (PIO), representing the college on the UAF PIO committee. The position develops press releases and public service announcements in coordination with University Relations, ensuring all communications authentically reflect CBSM's mission and uphold UAF's institutional standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, graphic design, public relations, journalism, communications, or a related field and three years of progressively responsible experience relevant to the position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Extensive experience in marketing, public relations, and graphic or website design may be substituted.
