Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is seeking Customs and Border Protection Officers to enforce laws, inspect people and cargo, and determine admissibility at U.S. entry points.

There are sign‑on incentives and retention bonuses for 3‑year or 4‑year contracts across a wide range of locations, with GS‑5 or GS‑7 salary tracks and locality pay. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet residency rules.

Qualifications

• Three years of general work experience demonstrating ability to meet people and learn facts.
• Bachelor’s degree or completion of a four‑year course of study in any field.
• Combination of completed college education and general work experience.
• One year of specialized experience at GS-7 for higher grade eligibility is described in the GS‑7 section.
• Citizenship and residency requirements apply.

Responsibilities

• Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations.
• Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel.
• Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances.
• Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States.
• Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband.
