California Virtual Academies seeks an English Language Development Specialist to support K-12 students in a virtual setting. The role emphasizes standards-based ELD instruction, attendance monitoring, and filling a diverse caseload across California.
Responsibilities include coordinating with the ELD software vendor, proctoring tests, and providing regular updates to families and homeroom teachers. Eligible candidates hold CA credentials and are familiar with ELD practices.

The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to TK-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider.
English Language Development (ELD) specialists meet with students throughout the week in virtual classrooms to provide standards-based targeted instruction based on the CA ELD Standards that meet the language needs of the students, as well as support students in content area coursework, provide additional one-to-one support, and provide curriculum support to homeroom and content teachers. ELD specialists build lasting relationships with their students through consistent outreach throughout the school year and monitor attendance and engagement. Additionally, ELD specialists provide interventions as needed to ensure students remain engaged and grow academically.
ELD specialists’ caseloads are generally made up of either elementary (K-5), middle school (6-8), or high school (9-12) students. ELD specialists are required to connect virtually with students once per quarter at minimum and attend one in-person event each quarter. All ELD specialists are required to proctor state testing.
Although ELD specialists can be assigned a grade span of elementary, middle, or high school, all interested applicants will need to be willing to teach all grades, K-12.
Full time employees work Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Full Time ELDS: Annual salary based on holding a Bachelors or Masters Degree and up to 3 years of experience in California
