California Virtual Academies seeks a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Teacher to deliver standards-based instruction online and in virtual classrooms for students in California. The role requires a valid California Multiple Subject Teaching credential and California ELA Authorization, with residency in CA.
The TK teacher will conduct Circle Time, provide per-student plans, monitor attendance, and collaborate with Learning Coaches. The position is full-time and remote, aligned to the state calendar.

The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily, complete all assignments, and attend required live instructional sessions. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider. Teachers meet with students daily in virtual classrooms to provide standards-based targeted instruction that meets the needs of the students, as well as support students in coursework, provide additional one-to-one support, provide feedback, and grade student work. Teachers build lasting relationships with their students through consistent outreach throughout the school year and monitor attendance and engagement. Additionally, teachers provide interventions as needed to ensure students remain engaged and grow academically.

Teachers are required to connect virtually with students once per month at minimum and attend/coordinate in-person events twice per quarter. All teachers are required to proctor state testing.
Full time teachers work Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Full Time TK Teachers: Annual salary based on holding a Bachelors or Masters Degree and up to 3 years of experience in California.

Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach.
Our teachers are responsible for ensuring that students achieve mastery of learning objectives. They provide guidance, instruction and support, manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs. The CAVA teacher is a highly qualified instructional teacher responsible for the delivery of specified course content both online and in person.
Students will be assigned to teachers by the Regional Program Coordinator (RPC) or designees according to a number of variables. In general, the RPC will look to assign students by geographical location and grade level. Full time classes will be filled prior to assigning students to part time teachers. When appropriate, students from the same family will be assigned to a single teacher.

Experience moderating web meetings (Blackboard Collaborate, Webinar, Webex) for small and large groups.

This position is a virtual position working from a home office. Must have ability to travel throughout the school year within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, proctor state exams and participate in school activities and orientations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
