Job summary

Cactus Feeders is seeking a Cattle Doctor at the Wrangler Feedyard in Tulia, Texas. This role focuses on daily health care for cattle, including diagnosing and treating illnesses under veterinary guidance, and ensuring welfare and performance of the herd.

You will work with the Cattle Manager and veterinary staff, performing pen checks, documenting treatments, and maintaining health supplies. Prior cattle-care experience and a strong work ethic are essential for success in this outdoor,

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, or technical/trade training preferred but not required.
• Experience in cattle handling or livestock care is strongly preferred.
• Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a physically demanding, outdoor environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to animal welfare.
• Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and shift tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily pen checks to visually evaluate cattle for illness, stress, or injury.
• Accurately diagnose and administer treatments, including injections, oral medications, or topicals.
• Record all treatments and observations using standardized documentation systems.
• Assist with necropsies and contribute to evaluations of treatment outcomes.
• Communicate health concerns with cattle teams, including pen riders and processing crew.
• Help maintain cleanliness, organization, and inventory of animal health tools and equipment.

Job Description:

A Cattle Doctor is responsible for providing daily care of the cattle through proper diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of illness. This position operates within the Cattle Department, where cattle doctors follow established company animal health protocols under the guidance and training of the company veterinarian to ensure optimal health, performance, and welfare of the cattle.

Cattle Doctor

• Work under the supervision of the Cattle Manager and in alignment with animal health protocols developed by our staff veterinarian.
• Perform daily pen checks to visually evaluate cattle for symptoms of illness, stress, or injury.
• Accurately diagnose and administer appropriate treatments, including injections, oral medications, or topical applications.
• Record all treatments and observations using standardized documentation systems to maintain animal health compliance.
• Assist with necropsies and contribute to evaluations of treatment outcomes.
• Communicate health concerns with other cattle teams, including pen riders and processing crew.
• Help maintain cleanliness, organization, and inventory of animal health tools, medicines, and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, or completion of technical/trade school preferred but not required.
• Experience in cattle handling or livestock care is strongly preferred.
• BQA (Beef Quality Assurance) certification in any segment is a plus.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a physically demanding, outdoor environment.
