The ideal candidate has 5+ years in cattle feeding or procurement, strong knowledge of grid marketing and futures hedging, leadership ability, and the capacity to work with plant leadership

Qualifications

• 5+ years in cattle feeding, procurement, or livestock operations.
• Proven experience with grid marketing and packer negotiations.
• Strong understanding of futures markets and hedging strategies.
• Experience managing Breed and G-Schedule programs and conventional cattle programs.

Responsibilities

• Source and purchase fed cattle aligned with market conditions and company objectives.
• Evaluate cattle performance, carcass value, and cost of gain; monitor profitability.
• Coordinate with processing plant leadership, harvest scheduling and barn personnel to optimize efficiency.
• Oversee animal health protocols and liaise with veterinary teams; manage market exposure via hedging.

This position will play a key role in developing and executing cattle buying strategies, managing grid marketing programs, implementing futures hedging and risk management strategies, and maximizing overall profitability. The successful candidate must possess extensive knowledge of the cattle industry, from cattle procurement and animal health to feeding performance, carcass quality, and grid marketing, including experience with G-Schedule driven and Natural cattle programs.Responsibilities include sourcing and purchasing fed cattle in alignment with market conditions and company objectives, evaluating cattle performance and carcass value, monitoring cost of gain, closeouts, breakevens, and profitability, and analyzing market trends to make informed purchasing decisions. This individual will work closely with processing plant leadership, harvest scheduling, and barn personnel to coordinate cattle deliveries, maintain efficient operations, and optimize plant performance. Additional responsibilities include overseeing animal health protocols, coordinating with veterinary professionals, managing market exposure through futures hedging, and identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and financial performance.The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the cattle business from purchase through processing, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to manage both cattle performance and personnel effectively.
