Job summary

St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in Houston, TX seeks a compassionate School Counselor to support student success and well-being.

The counselor will promote social, emotional, and academic growth, provide counseling and guidance services, and collaborate with faculty and families to foster a faith-filled learning environment aligned with Archdiocesan standards. The role is a full-time hourly contract, with duties including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and coordination

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Education, or related field (Master's preferred).
• Valid School Counselor certification/license in Texas or ability to obtain.
• Experience in a school or counseling setting with children.

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling for individual students and small groups addressing educational, social, and emotional needs.
• Develop a referral system for counseling to be used by principal, teachers, and parents.
• Assist students in developing problem solving, social, and communication skills.
• Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments per school protocol.
• Engage parents via meetings, emails, and calls to support student progress.
• Coordinate parent education and information on child development and discipline.
• Refer outside resources to support ongoing counseling or learning problems.
• Support students' relationships with peers, teachers, and families; mediate conflicts.
• Design and implement guidance curriculum and coordinate guest speakers.
