Catholic Chaplain – Working Title: Catholic Chaplain

Salary Range: $5,743.00 - $7,541.00

Overview

Under the direction of the Community Resources Manager, the Catholic Chaplain provides religious services, interviews and counseling to incarcerated individuals, prepares and conducts religious services, administers religious rites, organizes and instructs classes in religious ethics and sacred music, and supervises programs arranged by visiting religious and allied groups. The Chaplain serves as a member or consultant to classification committees, works with incarcerated individual groups and activities, and provides supervision of assigned incarcerated individual workers.

Responsibilities

The Catholic Chaplain will:

  • Lead and conduct regular religious services and rites.
  • Administer religious counseling and interview services to inmates.
  • Organize and facilitate classes on religious ethics and sacred music.
  • Coordinate visiting religious and allied groups for program integration.
  • Act as a consultant to classification committees.
  • Support incarcerated individual groups and activities.
  • Supervise assigned incarcerated individual workers.
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications outlined in the Class Specification, including requisite education, experience, and certification for pastoral or ministry roles. Verification of qualifications will be conducted prior to interview and/or appointment.

Desirable Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include a demonstrated commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive workplace, experience in faith-based counseling within correctional settings, and any additional credentials that enhance pastoral effectiveness.

Working Conditions

High Desert State Prison is located approximately eight miles east of the town of Susanville, about an hour and 30 minutes northwest of Reno, Nevada. The position is in-office and requires full-time commitment.
