Job summary

CA Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation is seeking a Muslim Chaplain in Imperial County to provide ethical and spiritual support to incarcerated individuals, lead religious services, and administer rites in accordance with policy.

The role includes counseling, organizing religious education and sacred music classes, advising on family-related matters, and liaising with classification committees; supervision of two inmate clerks is required. Telework is in-office only.

Qualifications

  • Interviews and counsels incarcerated individuals on ethical and moral problems and spiritual matters.
  • Prepares and conducts religious services and administers religious rites.
  • Organizes and instructs classes in religious and sacred music.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels with incarcerated individuals regarding family problems and social integration.
  • Works with classification committees as needed or as a consultant to committees.
  • Supervises a minimum of two incarcerated inmate clerks and ensures compliance with ceremony rules.

Under the direction of the Community Resources Manager (CRM), the Muslim Chaplain: interviews and counsels incarcerated individuals on ethical and moral problems and spiritual matters; prepares and conducts religious services and administers religious rites; organizes and instructs classes in religious and sacred music; counsels with incarcerated individuals regarding family problems; serves when designated, as a group member of, or consultant to, classification committees; work with incarcerated individual groups and activities; is responsible for ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations regarding the ceremonies of the Muslims; supervises a minimum of two incarcerated individual clerks.
