Chartwells Higher Education at the University of Toledo is seeking a salaried Catering Sous Chef to support culinary operations for athletics and events. You will assist in supervision, preparation, cooking, and menu development, while mentoring hourly staff.

This role offers opportunities to roll out new culinary programs, collaborate with marketing and culinary teams, and advance within a fast-paced catering environment. Evening and weekend hours apply; Chartwells is part of Compass Group USA.

Qualifications

• A.S. or equivalent experience is required or preferred.
• Culinary/kitchen management experience is desirable.
• High volume, complex foodservice operations experience is highly desirable.
• Prior experience with catering and leading culinary operations for catering events is preferred.
• Institutional and batch cooking experiences helpful.
• Knowledge of food and catering trends with focus on quality, production, sanitation, cost controls, and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Chef and culinary team with managing cost controls and expenditures for the account.
• Assist with planning and creating menus.
• Produce and execute catering events.
• Roll out new culinary programs with marketing and culinary teams.
• Foster strong client relationships to align programs with objectives, driving satisfaction and retention.
• Perform other duties to support dining service operations.

Job Summary

Do you enjoy using your culinary skills in fast paced growing catering environment? We are currently seeking a salaried Catering Sous Chef at the University of Toledo. In this role, you will be responsible for successfully supporting the culinary operations athletics and other standard catering events. You will assist in the supervision, preparation, and cooking of various food items, as well as developing daily menu items and their preparation and garnishment. Additionally, you have the opporunity to supervise, coach, and develop hourly associates and collaborate with the Executive Chef/Chefs.

Hours will vary with this role based on event needs and will include evenings and weekend.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Chef and culinary team with managing cost controls and control expenditures for the account

• Roll out new culinary programs in conjunction with the marketing and culinary teams
• Foster strong client relationships to align our programs with their objectives, driving satisfaction and retention
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of dining service operations

Preferred Qualifications

• A.S. or equivalent experience
• Culinary/kitchen management experience, depending upon formal degree or training
• High volume, complex foodservice operations experience - highly desirable
• Prior experience with catering and leading culinary operations for catering events
• Institutional and batch cooking experiences helpful
• Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
• Must be experienced with computers
