Job summary

Saint Anthony Hospital in Chicago, IL is seeking a dedicated Catering Associate to support the Dietary Department. You will handle patient food service, menu selections, tray assembly, and tray delivery on assigned units.

This is a full-time role with a rotating shift. The compensation starts at $17.05 per hour under the union contract and offers a pathway to professional growth in a patient-centered hospital environment.

Qualifications

• 1 to 3 years of experience in food service/hospital setting.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Speaks and reads English.
• Ability to prioritize and follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Takes patients' menu selections prior to each meal.
• Assembles trays according to the patient’s menu on tray tickets in a timely and accurate manner.
• Interacts with nursing to ensure patients’ diet prescriptions are accurate, and patients’ food needs are met.
• Completes catering rounds after passing trays to inquire if the patient needs anything else.
• Retrieves trays from patients’ rooms shortly after completing the round.
• Maintains accurate and current information for each patient in assigned unit(s).
• Assists the dietitian with monitoring of patients who are NPO, on liquid diets or have a calorie count ordered.

Position Summary

Responsible for patient food service on assigned units, menu selections, tray assembly, tray delivery and pick up, special requests and needs, in- between meal food delivery. Exhibits a friendly, caring attitude to patients when introducing the catering program, taking menu selections, delivering trays, inquiring during catering rounds and retrieving trays.

Responsibilities

• Takes patients' menu selections prior to each meal.


• Comply with food and nutrition restrictions on special, modified diets to ensure optimal food preferences are met within guidelines of diet order limitations. (Throughout Shift)


• Offers alternatives to the menu as allowed on the prescribed diet in accordance with food allergies and sensitivities, cultural, ethnic and religious preferences, when the patient inquires or needs additional selections. (Throughout Shift)


• Assembles trays according to the patient’s menu on tray tickets in a timely and accurate manner.


• Interacts with nursing to ensure patients’ diet prescriptions are accurate, and patients’ food needs are met.


• Completes catering rounds after passing trays to inquire if the patient needs anything else.


• Retrieves trays from patients’ rooms shortly after completing the round.


• Mantiains accurate and current information for each patient in assigned unit(s).


• Assists the dietitian with monitoring of patients who are NPO, on liquid diets or have a calorie count ordered.


• Communicates any patient-related problems/concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner following departmental procedures.

Work Experience

1 to 3 years of experience.

Position Qualifications

• 3 months of food service experience in a hospital setting.


• High School Diploma or equivalent


• Use of cooking utensils and equipment.


• Speaks and reads English.


• Ability to prioritize.


• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
