Job summary

Abingdon School Foundation is seeking a catering assistant to support food preparation, service, and stock management in a busy school kitchen. The role emphasizes adherence to food safety standards, high service quality, and teamwork.

Role involves term-time only, five out of seven pattern, with a competitive hourly rate and full training provided. Pre-employment checks including DBS are required.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a busy kitchen or catering environment, ideally serving large numbers.
• Ability to follow recipes, portion guidelines, and food presentation standards.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, customer focused attitude.
• Understanding of food safety, allergen awareness, and hygiene practices.
• Confidence working under pressure during busy service periods.
• Basic food handling certifications such as Level 2 Food Safety; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the replenishment of food and maintain clean, organised service areas to a high standard.
• Support the preparation, presentation, and service of food in line with quality expectations.
• Assist with stock rotation, labelling, and food safety compliance.
• Provide warm, professional customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
• Work collaboratively with the catering team to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures, contributing to a safe working environment.

What You Will Do
