Job Summary

The Walmart Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing category growth strategies that balance the needs of Oldcastle APG and Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club. Candidates should be intelligent and self-motivated with the ability to support various Brands & Categories for strategic growth.


Reporting to the National Sales Director, this position will be remote with local travel.


Job Responsibilities

  • Developing an Account Plan for Wal-Mart & Sam’s Club including near- and long-term objectives, timelines, tracking/monitoring, and reporting.
  • Creating and articulating business opportunities based on evolving shopper behaviors and Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club Strategies.
  • Bringing omni-channel shopper concepts to life; ensuring that products are available at every touchpoint in the shopper journey.
  • Proactively influencing strategy and identifying opportunities for growth with both Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club and within Oldcastle APG/Lawn & Garden.
  • Leading and influencing Customer Annual Line Review & Product Category reviews; recommending and managing appropriate data, closing knowledge gaps, and aligning the team to appropriate category priorities.
  • Anticipating future Retailer & Consumer market needs and driving solutions.
  • Training, educating, and developing a consumer-driven mindset as a competitive advantage for Oldcastle APG/Lawn & Garden.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Management, Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive sales, category management, trade marketing, analytics, consumer or shopper insights experience.
  • Proven experience leading customer engagements in space and assortment, pricing strategy, trade promotion strategy, and omnichannel solutions.
  • Strong professional and interpersonal skills - ability to develop a vision and influence at all levels; understands customer operations and what’s required to win at retail.
  • Business & financial acumen with knowledge of retailer and manufacturing processes/structure.
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, decentralized business model and be comfortable with regional variabilities.
  • Embracing change, challenge, and problem-solving; being a critical thinker and learner.
  • Highly adaptive, versatile, and flexible.
