Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Plans and conducts analysis of financial, operational, clinical or administrative projects with management.
  • Identifies and secures supply sources and performs category management for materials, equipment, supplies and services.
  • Develops proposals based on spend patterns to reduce cost and operational variance.
  • Monitors trends and marketplace developments and integrates changes into sourcing strategies.
  • Leads contract negotiation and finalizes contracts meeting CHCO standards and cost targets.
  • Engages stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes during negotiations and reviews.
  • Develops RFPs/RFIs, issues purchase orders, and implements policies.
  • Manages contract renewals or terminations as needed.

Job Overview

As a newly established role within the organization, the Category Management Specialist for Purchased Services will play a pivotal role in advancing a strategic framework for sourcing service-related spend. This position offers a unique opportunity to establish best practices, strengthen vendor partnerships, and drive measurable value through sourcing, contracting, performance management, and operational standardization. Success in this role will be demonstrated through achievement of annual cost savings and cost avoidance targets, increased contract compliance, improved supplier performance metrics, reduction in service variation, enhanced stakeholder satisfaction, and the development of sustainable category strategies that support organizational goals.

Job Status: Full-time, Salaried. Hybrid (60% in office, 40% remote- subject to change), will require travel to other campuses at times.

Shift: Days. Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plans and conducts analysis of financial operational, clinical or administrative projects in collaboration with management.
  • Identifies and secures supply sources and performs other category management activities involving the purchase, distribution, and analysis of present/future needs of materials, equipment, supplies and services.
  • Develops proposals and recommendations based on analysis of spend patterns, identifying opportunities to reduce or eliminate cost and/or operational variance and advances strategies to capitalizes on such opportunities.
  • Analyzes and continually monitors emerging trends and marketplace developments and integrates changes into sourcing strategies. Facilitates the evaluation, trialing, introduction and adoption of new products and services.
  • Maximizes strategic partnerships with group purchasing organizations and local/regional hospital partners.
  • Leads and develops strategy used in contract negotiation and finalizes contracts that meet CHCO contract standards and cost targets.
  • Engages internal and external stakeholders as needed to achieve optimal outcome on behalf of CHCO.
  • Facilitates and coordinates business reviews of contractual performance of both parties to ensure compliance with terms and to identify conflicts or changes requiring resolution at contract renewal.
  • Provides high-level customer service and builds strategic relationships maintaining a positive working relationship with internal customers, and other stakeholders to obtain cooperation and support during negotiations and future business reviews.
  • Accountable for developing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Information (RFI), issuing purchase orders, recommending, developing, and implementing policies.
  • Manages contract termination procedures or renewals as needed.
  • Other duties as needed.
Scope and Level
  • Guidelines: Fully qualified, full performance or journey level. Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in situations without precedent.
  • Complexity: Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.
  • Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.
  • Communications: Contacts with team members, clients or the public where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.
  • Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degrees
    • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field is required
  • Experience
    • Minimum 5 years of category management, contract administration and/or purchasing experience.
  • Equivalency
    • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, one year of related professional experience will serve as an equivalency to one year of education
Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $90,900.59 to $136,350.88
