Job summary

UTMB Health in Galveston is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the JSH Labor & Delivery unit on a casual, non-benefits basis. The successful candidate will support surgical operations before, during, and after procedures, maintaining a safe operating room environment and ensuring instrument counts and sterile technique.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, completion of a Surgical Technologist program, and current certification or certification within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program.
• Current Surgical Technologist certification or obtain within 6 months.
• BLS certification required.
• Experience with operating room sterile technique a plus.

Responsibilities

• Checks supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure.
• Scrubs in, dons sterile gown and gloves.
• Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Assist in positioning, skin preparation and draping of patient.
• Passes instruments to the surgeon during surgery.
• Maintains sterile technique throughout the procedure.
• Assists with postoperative dressings.
• Assists in training students and new employees.
• Maintains tray inventory after each surgical case.
