Sienna Senior Living is hiring a First Cook for a casual on-call, on-site role at a location in the Pacifica area. The position supports meal preparation for residents with a focus on fresh ingredients and quality presentation.

We are seeking candidates with 3+ years in hospitality or seniors living, and a culinary credential is an asset. Strong English communication and ability to work flexible hours including weekends are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the hospitality or seniors living sector.
• Red Seal designation or a diploma from a culinary program at a recognized college is an asset.
• Must possess good public relations and communication skills.
• Experience in large quantity food, catering and special event preparation.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel an asset.
• Ability to work to deadlines.
• Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
• Effective verbal and written English communication skills required. All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check
• Bonus Points for having: Experience working with food ordering systems.

Responsibilities

• Visually inspect, select and use only the freshest ingredients for menu items.
• Prepares food items for residents using a quality method based on rotational seasonal menus.
• Subject matter expert in scratch cooking; teaches and coaches other cooks.
• Provides meals at appropriate temperatures with attractive presentations and portion control.
• Monitors receiving, storage, rotation and labeling to comply with health regulations.
• In absence of Executive Chef, assumes routine departmental operations and purchases supplies.
• Directs Second Cooks and Stewards in prep and plating; maintains sanitation.
• Adheres to sanitation, safety and QA standards; completes documentation.
• Assists with daily cleaning duties and inventory counts.
• Supports orientation and training of kitchen staff.
