Job summary

Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a Casual Restaurant Runner/Host for part-time, day shifts, with evenings and weekends availability. You will welcome members, manage seating, assist with take-out, maintain a clean host podium and lobby, and coordinate with servers and kitchen.

Prior casual dining experience preferred; must be able to lift 30 pounds and stand for six hours. This role offers hourly pay with tips and potential for growth in a fast-paced food and beverage

Qualifications

• Minimum of six months of similar food service experience preferred.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull at least 30 pounds.
• Must be able to walk and stand for six hours consecutively.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Year‑round position; not intended for summer‑only employment. Available evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Greet members immediately upon entry with a smile and by name.
• Offer to hang coats, hats, and umbrellas.
• Offer extra assistance to the elderly and handicapped.
• Open doors for members when possible.
• Maintain server map and record of cover distribution.
• Provide appropriate menus and wine list to each table.
• Inform kitchen managers of the number of menus in the dining room at any time.
• Maintain cleanliness of all menus, inside and out, and keep them up‑to‑date.
• Answer the phone according to Grill standards.
• Have full knowledge of the food and wine menus for take‑out orders.
• Take take‑out orders, prepare checks, and set drinks for the runner station.
• Assist with table maintenance, water tables, and folding napkins when a guest leaves.
• Assist with bussing and sanitizing tables.
• Attend staff pre‑shift meetings for service updates and policy changes.
• Follow staff checklists for set‑up and clean‑up.
• Complete and report all weekly cleaning assignments to a manager.
• Report lost and found items to managers.
• Answer questions from the expo regarding tickets and find the appropriate staff.
• Deliver up to three plates/dishes to the table as presented in the window, coordinating additional staff when needed.
• Clean and stock runner station.
• Assist with the bussing of tables.

Farmington Country Club presents an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join our high‑volume and fast‑paced Food and Beverage Operations team as a Casual Restaurant Runner / Host. Our runners and hosts consistently deliver high‑quality service to our members and their guests in a friendly, professional manner. An ideal candidate has a background in casual dining and is looking to give members and their guests fantastic service. Candidates should be available evenings and weekends and want to work 3–5 shifts per week.

Hosts are responsible for maintaining a smooth flow of seating, balancing reservations with the waitlist, assisting with take‑out orders, and keeping the host podium, coat rack, and lobby clean. Runners provide clear communication with the service team and kitchen, maintain the cleanliness of the runner line, and deliver food from the kitchen to dining areas within two minutes.

Operation Hours

• Breakfast: 7:30am – 11:00am
• Lunch: 11:00am – 2:30pm
• Pub Menu & Bar Service: 2:30pm – 5:00pm
• Dinner: 5:00pm – 9:00pm

Shifts

• Breakfast/Lunch Shift: 8:00am – 3:30pm
• Lunch Shift: 10:00am – 3:30pm
• Dinner Shift: 4:00pm – 9:30pm

Pay

Casual Dining Hosts make $8/hour base pay plus tips from to‑go orders. All restaurant checks include an automatic 20% gratuity, and members may offer an additional tip. When more than one host works, tips are pooled.

Casual Dining Runners make $12/hour base pay plus 3% of sales tips from servers and bartenders.
