Job Description:

Unpaid volunteer contributing time to Intermountain Healthcare in various roles.

Volunteers play a vital role in hospice care, serving as an integral part of the hospice team to provide patients, caregivers, and families with a comfortable and compassionate end-of-life experience.

Hospice volunteers are compassionate individuals who have a significant impact on the lives of patients, the hospice team, and the families and friends of the terminally ill.

Volunteer Opportunities
  1. Patient Care - Offer companionship and support to hospice patients and their families through social visits, music therapy, reading, playing games, or writing personal/family histories.
  2. Respite Care - Relieve caregivers who are physically and emotionally exhausted, allowing them to run errands, exercise, or have some time alone.
  3. Bereavement Support - Support families through the death and grieving process, create hand molds of patients, and work with social workers and chaplains to facilitate group meetings, memorial services, and follow-up with families.
  4. Office Support - Provide administrative assistance such as sending birthday cards, assembling mailing packets, making supply calls to patients, and assisting with hospice events.
  5. Pet Peace of Mind - Support keeping patients and pets together during hospice care, including walking or playing with pets, arranging transportation to vet or grooming appointments, and providing pet placement after a patient's death.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Able to work independently within scope of assigned duties
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good listening skills; active listening
  • Maintain professional relationships with sensitivity and respect
  • Sound mental and emotional health
  • Sensitive to patient and family situations/dynamics
  • Ability to stay calm in stressful situations
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable
  • Commit to at least 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months

Volunteers are required to pass a drug screening and background check.
