• Understand and explain store programs and handle transactions.

Job Responsibilities at Food City

• Provide efficient and courteous service to customers at all times, including inviting customers to check out. Never sign off the register with a customer waiting; always wait until someone relieves you.
• Scan and ring customer orders according to company policy and store productivity standards, ensuring items are credited to the correct department and removed from the cart.
• Receive and be accountable for all funds collected during transactions.
• Assist courtesy clerks in bagging groceries.
• Maintain a neat and clean work station and surrounding area.
• Follow all applicable state and local laws regarding beer and wine sales.
• Comply with federal laws concerning WIC handling.
• Adhere to coupon handling procedures.
• Follow company policies for check cashing and tendering.
• Understand and implement policies for Debit Card, Credit Card, Gift Card, EBT Cash, and EBT Food Stamp transactions.
• Use assigned tills properly according to company policy.
• Take weekly produce tests.
• Ensure all not-on-file items are recorded and submitted daily.
• Follow proper procedures for obtaining change.
• Use the intercom correctly.
• Avoid conversing with other associates while checking out customers.
• Understand and be able to explain the ValuCard program.
• Assist with light stocking duties, such as candy and cigarettes.
• Sweep the front end area.
• Replace misplaced items in their proper locations.
• Keep bathrooms clean and tidy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
