Job summary

Ghirardelli Chocolate Company in San Francisco is seeking a friendly Retail Cashier to join our team and deliver exceptional guest experiences. You will greet guests, process purchases, wrap items, and assist on the sales floor with product knowledge and upsell opportunities.

Starting rate is $21.00/hr. Candidates should have a High School Diploma and up to 2 years of retail cashiering experience; SF Fair Chance Ordinance applies. Join us and help champions our premium chocolate brand daily.

Responsibilities

• Cashiering and greeting guests in a positive manner.
• Process purchases using scanner or keypad.
• Wrap fragile items and bag purchases securely.
• Upsell products using established procedures.
• Handle cash or card transactions and close transactions.
• Assist guests on the sales floor and answer product questions.
• Stock replenishment and inventory control as needed.
• Answer shop phone system and maintain professional guest service.

Scope of Responsibilities

• Cashiering
• Greet each Guest using both verbal and non-verbal communication in a positive manner
• Process purchases using either scanner technology or electronic keypad
• Properly bag purchases--wrapping breakable items where necessary
• Up-sell to Guest using established and appropriate procedures
• Process final purchases with either proper cash handling techniques or credit card transactions
• Close each transaction with a friendly greeting and inviting the guest to return
• Guest Service
• When not processing purchases, assist guests on sales floor with purchases
• Utilize knowledge of products and pricing to satisfy guest inquiries and create up-sell opportunities
• Replenish stock of durable and perishable goods as needed
• Answer shop phone system and respond to guest service needs in a professional manner
• Regularly assist Chocolateers, Supervisors, and Management in monitoring guest activity and creating excitement with superior guest service
• Assist, when necessary, in pre-packing items for sale; gift-wrapping items for sale; inventory control and management
• Offer samples of product to guests

Education and/ Experience

• High School Diploma
• Preferred 0 - 2 years minimum experience in retail/restaurant cashiering.
