Job Duties
  1. Operate the cash register according to standard procedures. Collect cash payments and tallies meal vouchers.
  2. Balance the cash drawer daily, reporting any discrepancies to the supervisor or Cafeteria Manager.
  3. Handle all monetary transactions responsibly.
  4. Fill and/or stock the cashier area (e.g., put out appropriate signs, ensure sufficient supplies).
  5. Customer Service: Maintain respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, a pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness. Respond promptly, professionally, and respectfully in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations.
  6. Maintain departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Identify gaps and create necessary policies and procedures.
  7. Adhere to the Medical Center's Code of Conduct and be familiar with its Mission, Vision, and Values.
Other Duties
  • Assist in food preparation as required.
  • Ensure all point-of-sale signs and menu boards are current.
  • Greet customers promptly and courteously, providing information and directions as needed.
  • Complete side work such as stocking bread, refilling salad bars, replenishing condiment stands, and making coffee.
  • Participate in in-services and departmental meetings.
  • Assist in catering as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience as a cashier preferred.
  • Must pass a basic math skills test.
  • Ability to operate a cash register and handle monetary transactions quickly and accurately.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English as required by the position.
Education

High School graduation or equivalent.

Job Setting / Physical Demands
  • Cafeteria environment with contact with visitors and staff at all levels.
  • Mostly sedentary work.
  • Exposure to hot surfaces such as ovens and steam tables.
