King County’s Finance and Business Operations Division, Treasury section, is seeking a Fiscal Specialist 2 - Cashier!

We're seeking an enthusiastic candidate who is customer service-oriented, a team player with a proactive attitude, and able to remain calm under pressure while handling a high volume of transactions. Strong communication skills and attentive listening are essential.

Scope Of Job Duties

Receive and process property tax payments in various forms (cash, checks, credit/debit cards).

  • Post to the general ledger and reconcile collections against subsystems.
  • Verify the accuracy of tax payments with the amount owed, identify and correct errors in payment calculations, research discrepancies, and prepare tax refunds and payment returns.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate clearly and effectively with customers and co-workers.
  • Process, track, and notify taxpayers of returned checks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated recent experience processing high-volume financial transactions and cash handling.

  • Skilled in analyzing, researching, and resolving customer issues while maintaining positive customer relationships.
  • Proven experience entering and reviewing numerical data with speed and accuracy.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when working with time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to perform research, analyze data, and solve problems related to financial transactions.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, writing, and customer service skills.
  • Capable of handling multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Intermediate level of technology proficiency using MS Office Productivity tools in your daily work
  • Ability to manage your time and adapt to changing priorities, work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, meet quick deadlines, and produce timely and quality work products.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with LEAN processes and principles
  • Experience with SharePoint, MS Teams and other collaborative online tools

The Treasury Section is part of the larger Finance and Business Operations Division portfolio of countywide services. FBOD’s vision “Count on Us”reflects the division’s deep-seated commitment to customer success, equity, employee engagement, resource stewardship, and operational excellence.

Position Information

  • Work Site Details: The work associated with this position will be 100% in-office with in-person interactions at our King Street Center location.
  • Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
  • Work Schedule: This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and therefore is overtime eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek; normally 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Union Representation: This position is Teamster 117 represented.

Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop. When working remotely employees must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work, remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours, and follow FBOD’s Hybrid and Remote Guidelines including on-camera participation during virtual video meetings. King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.
