Primary Responsibilities
- Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely.
- Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash registers, scanners, and scales.
- Maintain cleanliness of the register area, including sweeping floors and cleaning check lanes, registers, and scales.
- Prevent loss of money and merchandise through careful handling, accurate pricing, and proper use of store procedures for coupons, vouchers, checks, credit, and debit cards.
- Ensure safety of self, customers, and co-workers by following store safety rules and reporting hazards.
- Bag customer purchases efficiently and correctly.
- Understand operation, safety, and restraints of electronic cash registers, scanners, scales, and intercom systems.
- Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisors and managers to ensure customer service and product availability.
Qualifications
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Basic mathematics skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in related field preferred.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Standing capability for at least 4 hours.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. from 6 inches to 48 inches height.
- Ability to move up to 40 lbs. up to 15 feet.
- Ability to retrieve items from floor, shelves, and high places (up to 84 inches).
- Ability to bend and twist during cleaning and merchandise handling.
- Work indoors with transitions of heat, cold, humidity, and dust.
