Job description

Job Title: Cashier at Aquatic Facilities

Perform cashiering duties promptly, courteously, and accurately at aquatic facilities.

Environmental Factors

Works within a crowded, hectic swimming pool environment.

Physical Factors

Position is highly sedentary within an aquatic office setting, with 80-90% of the day spent at a desk. 50% of the day involves hand coordination required for operating a cash register, calculator, writing, stamping, and stapling. A high degree of customer contact requires strong verbal abilities and the ability to read at a high school level.

Work Situation Factors

Extended hours and constant interruptions. Must be at least 18 years old. Regular attendance is required. The position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.

This posting will be used to fill a part-time, regular, non-exempt position, potentially filling multiple vacancies, including positions that are regular, contract, full-time, part-time, or temporary within the Parks and Recreation Department.

This position is graded RN03.

Responsibilities

• Promptly, courteously, and accurately receive cash and/or checks, operating a cash register.
• Issue receipts to customers remitting payments.
• Balance the cash drawer daily and take appropriate steps to correct errors.
• File all receipts and documents, including missing numerical receipts.
• Prepare daily cash reports.
• Adhere to the City's policies related to cash handling.

Qualifications

Equivalent to a high school diploma plus six (6) months experience in cashiering. A combination of education, experience, and training may be considered per City of Las Cruces policy. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

No specific license required.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

• Knowledge of customer service principles, cash handling, record keeping, and city policies.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships, deal effectively with the public, work under pressure, be self-motivated, and adhere to policies.
• Skills in operating calculators or cash registers, making mathematical calculations, maintaining accurate records, and demonstrating strong English language abilities and legible handwriting.
