Job summary

Qualifications

Position Summary

The Cashier is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and processing all sales transactions accurately and efficiently at the Pharmacy. This position serves as a key point of contact for patients and customers, creating a welcoming and professional experience at every interaction. The cashier supports front-end pharmacy operations and contributes to the overall success of the community pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Transactions & Cash Handling

• Process customer purchases including over-the-counter products, pharmacy items, and general merchandise.
• Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently.
• Handle cash, credit cards, debit cards, and electronic payment methods.
• Issue receipts, refunds, and exchanges in compliance with store policies.
• Reconcile cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Report any cash discrepancies or transaction errors to the supervisor immediately.

Customer Service

• Greet all customers and patients with a friendly and professional demeanor.
• Assist customers in locating products and answer general product inquiries.
• Direct pharmacy-related or clinical questions to the pharmacist.
• Handle customer concerns or complaints professionally and escalate to management as needed.
• Maintain the front-end area clean, organized, and stocked.

Store Support & Administrative Duties

• Assist with stocking shelves, facing products, and maintaining proper product displays.
• Monitor inventory levels on the sales floor and communicate replenishment needs to management.
• Process insurance co-payments for prescription pickups.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as directed by management.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

• One (1) year of cashier, retail, or customer service experience preferred.
• Experience in a pharmacy or healthcare retail environment is a plus.

Technical Skills

• Basic proficiency with POS systems and electronic payment processing.
• Basic computer and data entry skills.

Working Conditions

• Retail pharmacy environment with frequent customer interaction.
• May be required to stand for extended periods during work shifts.
• May work evenings, weekends, or holidays based on store schedule.
• Fast-paced environment during peak hours.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing at the cashier station.
