Job summary

Doug Ashy Building Materials is hiring a Full-time Cashier in Louisiana. You will greet customers, handle transactions, issue receipts, balance cash drawers, and maintain a clean checkout area. You’ll also assist customers and direct them to the right departments, while adhering to safety and loss-prevention procedures.

The role requires strong math, attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork. Some Saturday shifts may be required, with a supportive, family-owned work environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and basic math skills.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Team player with effective communication.
• Ability to work every other Saturday (half-day) or as needed.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

• Greet customers promptly and professionally upon entering the store and thank them for shopping as they leave.
• Accurately process customer transactions using a cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system, including cash, credit, debit, and account charges.
• Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change in accordance with company policies.
• Balance and close out cash register drawers daily to ensure accuracy with system totals.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and professional checkout area.
• Provide basic assistance by answering customer questions and directing them to the appropriate departments for product help.
• Scan, organize, and file invoices or transaction documents according to company record-keeping procedures.
• Follow all company safety, cash-handling, and loss-prevention procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager to support the success of the team and business.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Strong attention to detail, basic math skills and ability to follow instructions.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality are a must.
• Must be able to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.
• Must be available to work every other Saturday (half-day) or as needed, based on business needs.
• Professional attitude and good customer service skills when interacting with clients and team members.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25lbs occasionally;
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
• Visual and manual dexterity required for operating a cash register, scanning documents, and handling merchandise.
• Work is primarily performed in a retail store environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
