Job description

This position is responsible for supervising the Truancy and Adolescent Assessment Unit. The role involves monitoring and implementing family engagement services in accordance with state law, best clinical practices, and agency policies to ensure quality child welfare services are provided to County residents, within budget, regulatory, and legal guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Orientation and training of new staff specific to service functions.
  2. Direct supervision of staff through regular conferences to provide guidance and support, maintaining Supervisory Log Books.
  3. Personnel management activities including performance appraisals, leave and overtime authorization, enforcing accountability, and handling personnel issues.
  4. Assignment of work tasks and delegation.
  5. Enforcement of policies and procedures as defined by law and agency policy.
  6. Supervision of case data management using automated case management programs; proficiency in computer use including Word, Outlook, Excel.
  7. Conducting regular unit meetings and participating in management and program evaluation meetings.
  8. Completion of statistical reports and supporting agency management activities.
  9. Providing backup support for other Resource Unit caseworkers and supervising the after-hours caseworker as scheduled.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned by the Department Administrator.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, clinical intervention, and contingency planning.
  • Understanding of child welfare, counseling, child development, and family dynamics.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws including juvenile, child protection, and family services law.
  • Managerial and supervisory skills, including support and guidance provision.
  • Clinical assessment, service planning, decision-making skills.
  • Effective time management and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle high-stress environments and emotionally charged situations.
  • Teamwork, cultural awareness, and leadership capabilities.
  • Analytical skills and decision-making under difficult conditions.
  • Public relations skills.
Minimum Experience and Training:

Two years of professional social work experience and a bachelor’s degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education including 12 college credits in these areas. Must pass Child Abuse, Criminal History, and FBI Clearances. Pennsylvania residency required.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements:

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 30 pounds. Must have a reliable automobile with a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and insurance. Flexibility to work before or after hours, including evenings and weekends, is required. The work environment is typically moderate noise level, with accommodations available for disabilities.
