Job description

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for supervising the Truancy and Adolescent Assessment Unit. The role involves monitoring and implementing all family engagement services in accordance with state law, best clinical practices, and agency policies. It ensures that quality child welfare services are provided to County residents, within budgetary, regulatory, and legal directives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Orientation and training of new staff specific to service functions.
  2. Direct supervision of staff through regular conferences, providing guidance, support, and structure to enable efficient job performance. Maintain Supervisory Log Books.
  3. Personnel management activities including performance appraisals, leave and overtime authorization, enforcing accountability, and handling personnel issues.
  4. Assign work tasks and delegate appropriately.
  5. Enforce policies and procedures as defined by law, regulation, and agency policy.
  6. Supervise management and maintenance of case data, records, and actions via the automated case management system. Must have thorough knowledge of computer use including case management programs, Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.
  7. Conduct regular unit meetings.
  8. Monitor and assess practice to ensure consistency with program design and effectiveness in achieving goals.
  9. Participate in management team meetings and program evaluation and development with the Department Administrator.
  10. Complete assigned statistical reports.
  11. Participate in agency management meetings.
  12. Provide support and backup for other Resource Unit caseworkers and during absences or vacancies.
  13. Provide direct and backup supervision to the after-hours caseworker as scheduled.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Administrator.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, clinical intervention, and contingency planning.
  • Understanding of child welfare, counseling, child development, and family dynamics.
  • Familiarity with child welfare regulations, juvenile law, and family services law.
  • Knowledge of agency mission, policies, and programs.
  • Managerial and supervisory skills, including providing guidance and support.
  • Clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Awareness of cultural diversity issues.
  • Leadership qualities and ability to motivate staff.
  • Ability to analyze information and make decisions under challenging conditions.
  • Public relations skills.

Minimum Experience and Training:

  • Two years of professional experience in social work and a bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience with at least 12 college credits in relevant coursework.
  • This position requires Child Abuse, Criminal History, and FBI Clearances.
  • Residency in Pennsylvania is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing stairs, and transporting clients and records. Flexibility to work outside regular hours, including evenings and weekends, is necessary. Must be able to lift approximately 30 pounds occasionally. A vehicle in good condition with a valid PA driver's license and insurance is required.
