Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a County Caseworker 1 for the Northumberland County Intellectual/Developmental Services Program. You will support individuals with developmental needs, help access benefits, and guide them through treatment and service options.

Responsibilities include developing individualized service plans, assisting with benefit applications, coordinating progress, arranging community supports, maintaining documentation, and responding to crises as directed.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college coursework which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Responsibilities

  • Plan Development: Prepare individualized service plans that describe goals and needed services
  • Benefit Assistance: Assist individuals in completing applications for available benefit programs
  • Progress Coordination: Lead meetings that review consumer advancement in charted goal areas
  • Supportive Services: Arrange community-based supports such as budgeting guidance, social skill development, and daily living assistance
  • Documentation Management: Maintain records and files that support continuity of care and advocacy
  • Crisis Response: Provide immediate assistance during emergencies as directed by supervisory staff

Education

Bachelor's degree with 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences
Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college coursework including 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences
Any equivalent combination of experience and training including 12 credits in related social sciences and one year of experience in paraprofessional case management
Educational requirements may be met within two months of graduating with qualifying degree/credits
