Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Lackawanna County Office of Youth and Family Services, seeks a County Caseworker 1 in Scranton to protect children and support families.

You will investigate child abuse/neglect, plan safety goals, and coordinate services; this is a full-time role with a 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM schedule and no telework. You will join a collaborative team focused on safety, family stability, and positive outcomes. Location is Scranton, PA with an address at 123 Wyoming Avenue.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college coursework which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
• Bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
• Educational requirements met within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits

Responsibilities

• Case Investigation: Look into reports of child abuse or neglect to understand safety concerns
• Family Support: Offer services that help families prevent placement and strengthen stability
• Record Maintenance: Keep accurate agency records and prepare materials for court when needed
• Child Placement: Arrange placements and oversee children who are living outside their home
• Team Participation: Join conferencing and teaming meetings to help families set and reach goals

Education
