The Salvation Army in Scranton, PA is seeking a part-time Social Service Caseworker II to interview clients, assess needs, and connect families with referrals and community resources.

Under the supervision of Corps Officers, you will maintain confidential records, coordinate programs such as budgeting workshops, and assist with outreach. This role emphasizes compassion, confidentiality, teamwork, and the ability to engage with diverse communities; bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in social services.
  • Strong communication, organization, multitasking and teamwork.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; proficient in English.

Overview

Title: Social Service Caseworker IILocation: Scranton Citadel Corps, PAReports To: Corps OfficersAvailability: ASAPSchedule: PT+, 27.5 hoursSalary and Grade: 73

Responsibilities

Position Overview: Working under the direction of the Corps Officers, the Social Service Caseworker will serve as a compassionate and organized Social Services Coordinator, responsible for interviewing clients, providing referrals, maintaining confidential records, coordinating community programs, and representing The Salvation Army in collaborative networks and outreach efforts.

Duties:

  • Maintain confidentiality in all job-related matters.
  • Complete all documentation, including client case notes, in a timely and accurate manner and secure confidential records.
  • Conduct or arrange for workshops on budgeting, resources, etc.
  • Greet clients and provide them with the necessary forms to be assisted.
  • Interview clients seeking material assistance.
  • Maintain a database of community resources to refer clients to other locations that may help address their needs.
  • Make appointments for clients who need services.
  • Provide clients with information and referrals to appropriate Salvation Army programs and other community resources.
  • Refer clients seeking spiritual guidance to the Corps Officers.
  • Attend social service agency meetings directly related to the services The Salvation Army provides.
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism with clients, staff, community representatives, and volunteers.
  • Develop partnerships with colleges to establish The Salvation Army as a site for social service internships or volunteer opportunities.
  • Inform local community agencies and other sources about the goals and objectives of the Emergency Assistance Program.
  • Keep abreast of community issues and services by visiting other community agencies.
  • Participate in meetings and collaborative networks to address issues relevant to the community's residents.
  • Participate in training, workshops, and other educational opportunities that would enhance the skills related to this position.
  • Represent The Salvation Army at conferences, social service community functions, and community meetings.
  • Answer phones professionally and assist with food pantry calls when needed.
  • Assist in the daily maintenance of the social services office organization, including typing, filing, mailings, ordering supplies, etc.
  • Check emails daily and respond accordingly and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate monthly statistics on all services provided and submit them accordingly.
  • Assist in coordinating various social services programs, activities, and services, including Youth Camp, Adopt-a-Family, Angel Tree, etc.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required, associate degree in social services or related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in social services or a related field is required.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; follow written and verbal instructions; organize responsibilities, multitask, and function independently; and work in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent time management and customer service skills, high energy level, and solid work ethic.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Must complete KeepSafe and other required trainings upon hire.
  • Bilingual ability (English and Spanish) preferred; proficiency in spoken and written English required
  • Demonstrate discretion, integrity, and confidentiality in dealing with all matters and the ability to engage with diverse populations.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record required
  • Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competence in working with multi-cultural participants and experience working with inner-city populations.
  • Detail oriented with keen attention to accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks prior to employment: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check along with renewals every five years.
  • Must have an understanding of and support the Mission of The Salvation Army.
