Bill Wilson Center provides services to children, youth, young adults, and families in Santa Clara County. We also reach clients through street outreach and a crisis line. Programs focus on housing, mental health care, supportive services, and advocacy. Bill Wilson Center is committed to working with the community to ensure that every youth has access to the services needed to grow to be healthy and self‑sufficient adults. A key component of our philosophy is a strength‑based approach to improving the lives of youth and young families. We have been serving runaway and homeless youth since 1973.

Job Summary

The program offers intensive community‑based services to young adults (ages18‑24) identified as former foster or probationary youth. We rely on a diverse staff and an innovative program model to meet the needs of this underserved, often marginalized population. Specific supports and services include case management/referral to mental health services, housing search, skill building (independent living, vocational, community safety and emotional/behavioral), socialization and recreational activities, peer and family relationship building, academic support and coordination, employment exploration, and permanent housing search support.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Intake and assessment services.
  • Provide case management services to youth in program.
  • Assist youth in skills‑building including independent living skills and parenting skills.
  • Assist youth with developing educational and vocational plans.
  • Assist youth with child care arrangements; maintain regular communication with child care providers and parenting instructors.
  • Provide referral assistance to legal services (LACY), health services, drug and alcohol services, and mental health services.
  • Assist youth in developing and implementing an "Individualized Program Plan" to meet long‑term housing and independent living needs.
  • Utilize community resources to meet needs of youth in the program.
  • Maintain statistical data and complete reports as appropriate.
  • Attend agency and other program meetings as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively, work collaboratively with coworkers and management, and handle professional situations under pressure.
  • Monitor clients' housing conditions to ensure safety and cleanliness issues are addressed promptly.
  • Ensure cleanliness and tidiness at THP+ office sites; report maintenance issues to the manager or Facilities Manager immediately.
  • Ensure BWC vehicles are kept tidy and any maintenance or safety issues are reported to the Facilities Manager immediately.
  • Maintain regular attendance (a requirement of the position).
  • Work with outside agencies to ensure quality of care for youth and their children.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field from a four‑year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Housing needs and assistance experience required.
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse population.
  • Personal or lived experience with the criminal/legal system, housing instability, social services, or other systemic challenges is valued.
Required Skills / Abilities
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts as required for reporting.
  • Driving is a requirement; possession of a current driver’s license, personal vehicle, and automobile insurance is necessary.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to complete within 30 days of hire).
  • Fingerprinting/background check as required by the Department of Justice and/or TitleXXII regulations.
  • TB test required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Perform this job successfully requires knowledge of Internet, spreadsheet, and word‑processing software; Internet research skills are a plus.
