Job summary

GEO Reentry Services, LLC in Delaware County, PA seeks a dedicated counselor to develop and implement programs for inmates and detainees, including individual and group counseling, aligned with evidence-based rehabilitation. The role covers interviewing inmates, facility orientation, counseling on housing/work, coordinating with staff, and ensuring timely reviews; requires HS diploma and preferably BA in social sciences.

Prior corrections experience valued; strong communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, criminal justice or a related field preferred.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working with a corrections population and substance abuse treatment preferred.
• Strong organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Interview newly admitted inmates/detainees.
• Conduct facility orientation for new inmates/detainees explaining rules, services and classifications.
• Provide individual counseling on work, housing, adjustment and family issues.
• Resolve day-to-day counseling problems by referring to professional staff.
• Monitor custody, housing, job and program assignments for timely reviews.
• Visit inmates/detainees assigned to caseload in special housing.
• Review inmate/detainee medical status to determine eligibility to work volunteer jobs.

Education

Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, criminal justice or a related field

Responsibilities

Your main tasks

Your main goal is to develop and implement programs to meet the individual needs of inmates and detainees (including individual and group counseling).

• Interview newly admitted inmates/detainees.
• Conduct facility orientation for new inmates/detainees explaining the facility's rules and regulations, available services and programs, and disciplinary and classification process.
• Provide individual counseling on an informal basis regarding work and housing assignments, adjustment difficulties, and family issues.
• Resolve day-to-day problems with counseling (referring inmates or detainees with serious problems to professional counseling staff).
• Monitor inmate/detainee custody, housing, job, and program assignments to ensure all cases are reviewed in a timely manner.
• Conduct visits to inmates/detainees assigned to caseload who are in special housing.
• Review inmate/detainee medical status to determine eligibility to work volunteer jobs.

• High School diploma or equivalent, required.
