Job summary

The GEO Group is a global leader in evidenced based rehabilitation, providing programs for inmates and detainees. The role focuses on developing and implementing individualized counseling-based programs to meet inmates' needs, including orientation, supervision and reentry planning, with emphasis on safety and compliance.

You will administer interviews, counseling sessions, and coordinate with staff to monitor progress, housing and job assignments, contributing to effective reentry outcomes

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, criminal justice or related field preferred.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with a corrections population and substance abuse treatment preferred.
• Strong organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Computer proficiency with department software.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement programs to meet needs of inmates/detainees (individual and group counseling).
• Interview newly admitted inmates/detainees and conduct facility orientation.
• Provide counseling on work, housing, adjustment, and family issues.
• Resolve day-to-day counseling issues and refer serious cases to staff.
• Monitor custody, housing, job and program assignments and review cases timely.
• Visit inmates/detainees in caseload who are in special housing.
• Review medical status to determine eligibility for work volunteer jobs.

Responsibilities

Your main tasks

Your main goal is to develop and implement programs to meet the individual needs of inmates and detainees (including individual and group counseling).

• Interview newly admitted inmates/detainees.
• Conduct facility orientation for new inmates/detainees explaining the facility’s rules and regulations, available services and programs, and disciplinary and classification process.
• Provide individual counseling on an informal basis regarding work and housing assignments, adjustment difficulties, and family issues.
• Resolve day-to-day problems with counseling (referring inmates or detainees with serious problems to professional counseling staff).
• Monitor inmate/detainee custody, housing, job, and program assignments to ensure all cases are reviewed in a timely manner.
• Conduct visits to inmates/detainees assigned to caseload who are in special housing.
• Review inmate/detainee medical status to determine eligibility to work volunteer jobs.

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent, required.
• Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with a corrections population is desired along with substance abuse treatment experience.
• Organized and demonstrated strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
