Position Summary

This position provides goal-directed support and solution-focused interventions to achieve treatment goals and objectives identified in the client’s individualized treatment plan. This position facilitates services that are designed to assist the client with functional deficits and interpersonal and/or environmental barriers associated with their mental illness. At times this position will provide services to clients who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis and assist with stabilization or connecting to needed resources. The specialist will aid in the form of direct support, modeling, supervision, and/or cueing to support independent performance of tasks. Most contacts will occur in community locations.

A portion of this role will be devoted to supporting clients to secure and maintain suitable and stable housing. This will include assessing housing needs, providing support with applications and paperwork, connecting individuals with housing resources and advocacy for housing rights.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Required to follow dress code policy of any alternative work locations, including but not limited to schools, jails, courts, detention centers, other community partners, etc.
  • Assist in assessment of client needs.
  • Assist in the development of treatment plans.
  • Assist clients in accessing community-based resources, including providing transportation for clients when necessary and supporting access to other health-related providers.
  • Assist clients in implementing tasks related to treatment plan goals.
  • Collaborate with community partners and agencies to assist in following treatment plan goals and to assist in securing appropriate community resources.
  • Advocate and empower clients to ensure that appropriate services are provided, and necessary benefits are secured.
  • Support clients with medication management as needed.
  • Provide information and support to family members of clients as appropriate.
  • Assist with crisis management as needed.
  • Complete SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) training.
  • Work with community partners to meet the needs of clients, specifically housing needs within the agency as well as outside the agency.
  • Participate in ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) program and meetings.
  • Collaborate within the agency and with community partners to access housing funds with oversight and approval of direct supervisor.
  • Identify a network of resources for housing support within the SE Kansas community.
  • Collaborate with landlords, community partners and other stakeholders to explore housing solutions within the community.
  • Required to meet department productivity and documentation standards.
  • Provide on-call crisis services for the SAVE line on a weekly rotation for hours outside of CMHC business hours and including weekends and holidays.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Staff will meet competency expectations, including integration of evidence-based practices and required certifications by successfully completing the following training which will be conducted in all the following manners, but not limited to in-person training, online training, webinars, seminars, workshops, and self-directed training. All training, certifications, and competencies will be documented by completion of certificates when available and maintained by the Training department.
  • Obtain Certification for Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training. MOAB is an in-depth training program that teaches individuals how to recognize, reduce, and manage violent and aggressive behavior. Training is provided.
  • MOAB training requires controlled movements, body positioning, and the ability to perform physical holds and restraint techniques.
  • The focus of MOAB training is to use techniques that can be effectively applied by employees of varying physical capabilities while minimizing potential harm to both the individual being restrained and the trained themselves.
Credential and Experience Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school or equivalency is required.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in the various behavioral health fields such as clinical psychology, social work, counseling, nursing, rehabilitation or closely related degree, is preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Pass pre-employment background checks.
