Job Summary

The Case Manager is responsible for a variety of duties in support of Drexel University Counseling Center. This person will provide clinical case management for Drexel students, help to identify appropriate off campus resources to meet presenting client needs such as any medical, academic, financial, emotional, family and social needs which exceed the scope of care of university resource, and provide initial assessments, crisis, individual, group and couples counseling.

This person will also provide consistent follow up to ensure that clients’ needs are being appropriately met off campus. In addition to scheduling or facilitating contact with the appropriate on campus or off campus provider, this position will also function as primary contact for students or providers requesting counseling services pending release from hospitals or care of those providers and work collaboratively with staff in managing care. This person will also provide, assist in determining case disposition, and participate in all case conference and clinical meetings.

The Center is an APA-accredited internship in Health Service Psychology.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in navigating insurance, referrals to community resources, gaining access to care (including coordination of hospitalization and discharge planning) and advocating for students as appropriate in helping them access care.
  • Assists in tracking students referred to the community and communicate with them as needed about continuity of care (whether they completed the referral, quality of care from various providers, etc.).
  • Provides ‘bridge’ services as needed.
  • Manage students in crisis, perform initial assessments, and respond to families and university faculty and staff.
  • Communicates with community providers and agencies to expand and maintain mental health referral networks and relationships. Assists in improving internal and external referral processes.
  • Complies, maintains, and updates several types of referral resource information. Including maintaining an updating database.
  • Follows up with clients of Counseling & Health who are engaged in treatment with community medical providers.
  • Maintains timely records regarding client status, in keeping with Counseling Center record keeping policies.
  • Available for bridge / therapy to both assess and provide support for more acute students needing a brief round of therapy.
  • May have opportunity to provide supervision to social work trainee.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    • Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.
  • Minimum of 1 year of combined post-graduate experience in case management, triage, crisis intervention, individual therapy, and/or care coordination to young adults and/or college age population.
  • Experience working with multicultural and marginalized identities.
  • Current PA license or license eligible within first 90 days of employment (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time and relationship management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to effectively manage students with significant mental health needs.
  • Ability to work one evening per week (6-7pm).

This position is classified as Exempt, grade J. Compensation for this grade ranges from $47,490 - $71,230 per year.
