Job summary

Pierce County Juvenile Court is seeking a dedicated professional to support, coach and mentor young people. The role emphasizes safety, trauma-informed care, and building positive relationships within the community.

You will work in a dynamic environment, facilitating groups, coordinating with schools and families, and contributing to Diversion and accountability processes. Evening hours and varied schedules are required.

Qualifications

• One year working with young people in a case management, counseling, or monitoring capacity is required.
• BA degree in criminal justice or experience related to the position duties in social services, counseling, case management, human services or criminal justice is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Co-facilitate teaching groups of young people, to include Alternative Detention Program, Evidence Programming and Positive Youth Development Programs.
• Review Electronic Monitoring Website to establish a daily report that compares the movement of young people with previously approved windows. Possess the ability to drill-down with the system and assigned Juvenile Probation Counselor to establish or rule out deviations from established expectations.
• Support young people in the community, including visitations to schools, homes, or meeting with them at a designated location.
• Transport young people to fill out job applications, to appointments, school, Evidence Based and Positive Youth Development programs or other activities as necessary.
• Collaborate with parents, service providers, agencies, or other support systems in the lives of the young people served, to form a support network for them and their family; make telephone or in-person contacts to ensure that they are going to scheduled appointments.
• Serve on Community Accountability Boards to facilitate Diversion appointments and decision making panels.
• Work during evenings or varied work schedules to monitor the whereabouts of young people and facilitate group sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• One year working with young people in a case management, counseling, or monitoring capacity is required.
• BA degree in criminal justice or experience related to the position duties in social services, counseling, case management, human services or criminal justice is preferred.

Special Requirements:

• A valid Washington State driver's license is required.
• Ability to successfully complete a Pierce County background investigation and polygraph exam is required prior to employment.
