Job summary

Job Description: JOB SUMMARY

This is a paraprofessional aide position within the Mental Health Component of the Lancaster County Behavioral Health and Developmental Services Agency. This employee will provide casework support for various Mental Health activities throughout the Agency. The main purpose of the position is to facilitate case managers’ ability to spend more face-to-face time with consumers and/or to allow case managers to focus on clinical tasks.

The responsibilities of this position will be varied and will include but is not limited to: assisting case managers with preparing and completing paperwork, returning phone calls, transporting food orders to clients and/or transporting clients to appointments, and other duties as assigned to facilitate the provision of Mental Health services to consumers. Work is assigned and reviewed by the unit casework supervisor.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The employee reports directly to the caseworker supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assists caseworkers with preparing required paperwork to be completed at regular intervals.
  • Must be able to travel and work in the field throughout daily work time.
  • Employee uses his/her own vehicle and will be reimbursed for business expenses as per the county policy.
  • Provides transportation to consumers to various appointments, meetings, etc. as requested by Agency staff.
  • Picks up and delivers equipment, clothing and other belongings of clients, or other materials as required.
  • Conducts or accompanies Caseworkers on home visits.
  • Shares observations and assessments with Caseworkers and Supervisors.
  • Participates in team meetings.
  • Assists and encourages consumers to use available community resources by providing information and referrals.
  • Attends trainings as identified by the Supervisor.
  • Performs other related work as requested/required.
  • Must have daily access to reliable transportation.
OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES

The employee will perform other related duties as required by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or its equivalency Or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Preferred experience in customer service or human service work.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of serious mental illness and potential impacts on consumers.
  • Knowledge of social, economic and health problems and corresponding resources.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze information obtained through interviews and general observation, reports, records, and other sources and to provide information to clients, families and social service and/or administrative staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with consumers, families, agency staff and other community agencies.
  • Ability to interact and work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effective both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to sit and/or drive for long periods.
  • Ability to bend and lift up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and mobile phone.
  • Ability to practice organizational and stress management skills and to practice use of good judgement.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES
  • Required prior to Active Employment: Pennsylvania ChildLine Child abuse History Clearance Acceptable PA State Police Criminal Record Clearance Acceptable FBI Fingerprint Clearances completed through the required PA DHS vendor Clearances may be no more than one year old at the time of employment will be accepted.

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid car registration and insurance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Does not pose a threat to the health and safety of the department. Must have the ability to work independently. Must have the ability to transport self to various locations for meetings and trainings. This position has been identified as having the potential for exposure to Hepatitis B.
