Phoenix House of New York | Long Island is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome substance use disorders and achieve lasting recovery. We provide treatment, housing, and support services for our clients and their families.

We are seeking a Counselor to facilitate daily living activities, community meetings, and evidence-based group counseling while implementing individualized treatment plans for residents at our Long Island City residential site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) required.
• Minimum two years in a behavioral health/substance use disorder treatment program.
• Trained to dispense medications to clients in case of emergency.

Responsibilities

• Provides individual counseling and treatment/recovery plan preparation, monitoring and review.
• Facilitates activities of daily living, community meetings, engagement, carrying out treatment planning in milieu.
• Provide therapeutic interactions to foster patients social, cognitive and behavioral skill development.
• Provide supervision of milieu staff.
• Provide psychosocial interventions to teach skills for coping with urges, craving, impulsive behavior and cognitive distortions in thinking, motivational interviewing techniques.
• Provide individual, group and family counseling.
• Provide multi-family group counseling.
• Plan and facilitate interactions with residents within the milieu to build social, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
• Assisting in supervision of activities related to establishing a treatment environment.
• Prepare and maintain case records.
• Assist in the medication room in case of emergency.
