Garmin Ltd. in the Greater Kansas City area is seeking a full-time Cartography Technician Intern at Garmin's U.S. headquarters. You will create, edit, evaluate, and maintain cartographic data for Garmin products, following established methodologies.

Under supervision, youll contribute to data evaluation, processing, and verification, and you will learn Garmin's processes while delivering quality work. A collaborative team environment and a proactive attitude are essential.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Geosciences or related field.
• Basic knowledge of digital cartographic principles relevant to Garmin’s business needs.
• Proficient with Windows PC applications.
• Ability to learn established processes/tools and apply them to daily tasks.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Able to document work clearly and thoroughly.
• Enthusiastic with accountability and urgency.

Responsibilities

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Cartography Technician Intern at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for the creation, edition, evaluation, and maintenance of cartographic data for use in Garmin products, in compliance with established methodology and processes.

Essential Functions

• Works under close supervision of supervisor or mentor, following specific, detailed instructions
• Creates, edits and/or maintains cartographic data using Garmin-proprietary and/or third-party software
• Completes well-defined basic cartography tasks
• Identifies and resolves simple issues using proper cartography techniques
• Submits work for peer review to ensure product integrity, acts on feedback
• Communicates status of work clearly to supervisor or mentor
• Participates in cartographic data evaluation, processing and verification using established methodology
• Demonstrates drive to develop product and process enhancements on features and settings on assigned tasks

Basic Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Geosciences or other related field
• Basic working knowledge and understanding of digital cartographic principles relevant to Garmin’s business needs
• Proficient computer skills and familiarity with PC applications in a Windows environment
• Ability to learn/understand established processes/tools and apply them to daily tasks
• Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal/technical communication skills
• Able to document work thoroughly/in an organized manner
• Enthusiastic attitude with a strong sense of commitment, accountability and urgency
• Able to work collaboratively in a team environment to achieve goals

Desired Qualifications

• Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
• Understanding of Garmin’s Cartography Development Process
