Job summary

RJW Transport, Inc. in Illinois seeks a Carrier Representative to efficiently fill freight with carriers, grow the carrier base, and negotiate favorable rates. The role emphasizes building carrier and customer relations and supporting dispatch operations.

The position requires at least 1 year in logistics, data-entry proficiency, and solid English communication. We offer annual pay of $55k–$60k plus commissions and equity, with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Broker available freight by booking orders with carriers via phone, email, and load posting services.
• Negotiate rates, contact shippers/consignees for appointments, monitor dispatching of drivers.
• Build and maintain customer relations, provide quotes on new lanes upon request.
• Source and sign up new carriers, enter them into the logistics software and promote goodwill with carriers.
• Back up Customer Service and Track & Trace as needed; provide PODs to customers.

Compensation:

$55-$60k annual + commission pay & company equity

Job Purpose:

The Carrier Representative is responsible for ensuring that all logistic orders are filled with transportation carriers in the most cost effective manner. The carrier representative continuously searches to increase RJW’s carrier-base by sourcing out new carriers and building lasting business relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Broker available freight;
  • Books orders with carriers via phone, e-mail, and use of load posting services.
  • Contacts carriers and negotiates rate to move available freight.
  • Contacts shippers/consignees for appointments.
  • Monitors and participates in the dispatching of drivers when needed.
  • Helps in the resolution of problems related to shipments when needed

• Builds customer relations.
  • Keeps customers informed of order status and potential issues.
  • Keeps sales representative informed of order status.
  • Provides quotes on new lane when requested.
• Builds carrier relations.
  • Sources new carriers via phone and use of load posting service.
  • Signs up new carriers via the RJW packet and enters into the Logistics software.
  • Promotes goodwill with all carriers.
  • Continuously expands the carrier base.
• Secondary duties
  • Backs up Customer Service when needed.
  • Backs up Track and Trace shipments when needed.
  • Provides proof of delivery (POD’s) to customers when needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned by manager.

Qualifications:

• 1 year+ experience in the field of logistics and/or transportation.

Education and/or Experience Required:

• High School Diploma required.

Language Skills Sets:

• Must be able to communicate, read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

Mathematical Skills:

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to determine “root cause” of problem and determine corrective action.

Computer Skills:

• To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of Business Operating Systems, Internet software, Word Processing, and Spreadsheet software.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Must be able to activate phone systems utilizing keyboards and buttons.
• Must be articulate and comfortable speaking in front of others.
• Regularly works in an indoor/office environment and required to sit and/or use repetitive hand motion.
• Frequently required to talk, hear, stand and walk.
• Must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required.
• Must be able to work under stressful situations, have good cognitive skills, maintain work accuracy, and the ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time.
• Must have the ability to read and discern visual images on a variety of media with 20/20 corrected vision.
• Must be able to speak and communicate clearly over telephones.
• Must be in sound physical health as determined by a certified licensed physician with no evidence of the use of controlled substances.

Work Environment:

• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment will range from quiet to moderately loud.
